BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Spring Break is big business and our peak season here on Florida’s Space Coast.

It is rewarding to see families enjoying our beaches, historic downtowns and the natural wonders that surround us. Families young and younger come are here to thaw out and reconnect.

I recently enjoyed meeting a husband, wife and their teenage son kayaking on the Banana River in Cocoa Beach. They were checking out the manatee, dolphin, pelican, osprey and all the amazing wildlife surrounding them.

They chose Cocoa Beach for their annual Spring Break vacation for the first time this year because the son was into surfing. Their home is suburban Chicago.

Ok, I’m not going to speculate as to how a Chicago kid gets into surfing. But I was struck by how awesome it is that this family could travel to a destination where their interests bring them closer together.

Business is good and we are enjoying significant lodging revenue growth. Year-over-year growth for the fiscal year-to-date is 23 percent, and all of Spring Break numbers are not yet in. There is a positive buzz across the community as crowds turn out for the many events and festivals happening this time of year. Huge cruise ships come and go through Port Canaveral, and rockets blast off through the beautiful blue skies above our award-winning beaches.

Life is good here on Florida’s Space Coast and I look forward to continuing to spread the word so more families discover us; and our hospitality business continues to flourish.
