BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Mayor Henry Parrish is asking all citizens, surrounding communities and businesses to show their patriotism by flying their American flags as we start the unveiling process of the newly repainted elevated water tank which features three American Flags painted across the surface.

The tarps and scaffolding are scheduled to be completely down by the end of May.

At that time, the city will hold a public ribbon cutting ceremony to officially unveil one of Cocoa’s most iconic structures.

“Our elevated tank is a landmark structure within our great city and we are so proud to unveil it to the community,” said Mayor Henry Parrish.

“The flags show our love and support for our great Country and show Council’s commitment to ensuring the flags remain in place for future generations.”

The elevated tank underwent resurfacing and painting which started in the fall of 2014.

The newly painted tower will continue to have the three 25-foot high American flags surrounding the tank with the words “Cocoa, Florida” in between each flag.

It took approximately 750-800 gallons of paint to cover and protect the structure.

The new flags will be a bit smaller than what was previously on the tank to make them to scale.

Perhaps one of the most recognizable landmarks in Cocoa, the elevated tank was built in 1957.

In 1976, the city accepted the design and services of a resident who painted an American flag we have come to recognize on the structure.

The tank was sandblasted and painted in 1991 to get rid of rust and corrosion caused by the salty, coastal environment.

In 2003 the paint was touched up. This last project saw a complete sandblasting once again to remove old paint, rust and corrosion.
