BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – On the heels of his much-needed complete game seven-hit performance, Florida Tech left-handed starter Scotty Ward has been tabbed the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week.
With a NCAA Tournament bid hanging in the balance down the stretch of the regular season, Ward rose to the occasion en route to a crucial 3-1 road win in last Friday’s series opener at Palm Beach Atlantic.
As his own offense sputtered to just three hits on the night, the senior tossed his second complete game of the year to improve to 9-2 overall.
His nine wins are currently tops in the SSC, and marks the first time a Florida Tech pitcher has reached the single-season total since 2006. Surrendering only one unearned run, Ward lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.04.
Earlier in the week, the Port Orange, Florida native also became the lone SSC pitcher to be named a Brett Tomko Award semifinalist, one of 32 across the nation up for NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year.
Ward and the Panthers close out the regular season Wednesday at 6 p.m., as they travel to face Webber International.
