Cocoa Woman Charged With DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide In ATV Crash

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers arrested Christine Chimel, 42, on Wednesday afternoon for DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide in connection with the death of 7-year old Hunter Richard from an ATV crash on February 21.
Hunter was a passenger on the ATV that Chimel was operating.
Chimel’s blood alcohol level was at .223 percent at the time of the crash.
The legal limit is .08 percent.
She is currently being booked into the Brevard County Jail at this time.

Seven-Year Old Cocoa Boy Killed In ATV Crash
Seven-year old Hunter Richard of Cocoa was killed Saturday afternoon about 5:35 p.m. when the ATV he was riding on overturned on Cangro Street and Osprey Avenue in Canaveral Groves.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the ATV driver, Christine Chmiel, 42, was traveling westbound on Cangro Street, which is a dirt road.
When Chmiel came to the end of the road and attempted to turn around she lost control and the ATV overturned onto Richard.
Chmiel, of Cocoa, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, and Richards were flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he died.
Neither Richard or Chmiel were wearing helmets.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol the crash remains under investigation and charges against Chmiel are pending.
