BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech softball was unable to overcome a three run third inning as the Panthers fell to Shorter 3-1 in the opening game of the NCAA Super Regional at Alto Park on Friday.

FIT quelled some early chances from the Hawks but were unable to keep Shorter off the board in the third. Kameron Carter plated the opening run with a sacrifice fly to Elaine Brown in center field.

Two more runs scored on the play when Nicole Shinsky’s throw down to third went high and sailed into left field.

The Panthers drew near in the sixth as Brown raced home from second on an Ashley Montion two out single through the right side.

FIT had one final chance in the seventh when Elizabeth Eby cranked a double off the left field wall and Brigit Godfrey followed with a single to left. However, it proved to just not be the Panthers’ day as Brown drove a liner right into the glove of the second baseman, who doubled Godfrey off at first to seal the win for Shorter.

Despite taking the loss, Rachel Pence was strong in the circle. The sophomore went six complete, giving up one earned run on six hits.
