150-acre brush fire began Friday

VIDEO UPDATE, 9 p.m.: Palm Bay Fire Rescue Chief Jim Stables with Brevard County Fire Chief Mark Schollmeyer brief the media on a 150-acre brush fire that began Friday afternoon in the area of I-95 and Babcock Street. Stables reported that the fire was 65 percent contained and crews would be working through the night to deal with any flare-ups. (City of Palm Bay video)

UPDATE: 6:35 p.m.

The fire now extends over 100-acres and Babcock Street is now closed from Whynot Drive to Grant Road.

Southbound I-95  has been reduced to one lane as crews continue their efforts to put out the fire.

Fire crews from neighboring counties, including Orlando, are either on scene or en route to assist with the efforts to contain the blaze.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue is fighting a brush fire adjacent to the southbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 168 near the Grand Road overpass.

One southbound lane has been closed and caution is urged for vehicles navigating thi stretch of I-95.
