FHP Trooper, Suspect Shot Near I-95, SR 520

ABOVE VIDEO: Officials from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Highway Patrol provide information in the shooting that involved a FHP Trooper Sunday night at about 10:15 p.m. on State Road 520, just east of I-95 in the 4400 block of West King Street.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper was shot Sunday night at about 10:15 p.m. on State Road 520, just east of I-95 in the 4400 block of West King Street.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened during a traffic stop when the trooper pulled over a red pick up truck with no lights.

After the Trooper spoke to the female driver, who was returning to the vehicle to get her driver’s license, the passenger exited the vehicle and began shooting at the Trooper, who then returned fire, killing the passenger, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The trooper was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center and is receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
