“It has been a very exciting season,” said head coach Val Silvestrini.

“For it to finish the way that it did, I couldn’t have imagined that. Winning the regional was incredible, they were all extremely exciting games. From the walk-off hit against Rollins to winning the tournament, that was the best part of our season.”

“I was very happy with the way we played in the super regionals, out hitting the team that finished third in the nation,” said Silvestrini.

The Panthers, who garnered 110 points in the poll, are the only Sunshine State Conference team to make the rankings.

It is FIT’s first appearance in the rankings this season, though the team did previously fall in the “other receiving votes” category.

The Panthers completed the season with a 38-20 record, advancing to postseason play for the first time ever.

FIT claimed the NCAA Division II South Region II Championship over No. 24 North Alabama, Rollins and Tampa.

The Panthers fell in the super regional round to No. 3 Shorter, who went on to the semifinals at the Women’s College World Series.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out this year,” said Silvestrini. “We had a great team with great chemistry and that is why we made it so far.”
