One of 18 among all divisions across the NCAA, and the lone representative from the Sunshine State Conference, Florida Tech center fielder Kevin Wortman has been selected as a finalist for the 2015 TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award, announced Tuesday.
Developed in 2012, the honor exemplifies college baseball players whose unique qualities expand well beyond the playing surface, particularly in the classroom and in the community.
They are positive role models and exemplify core values like teamwork and integrity along with the drive to win.
As a senior, Wortman batted .297 in 46 starts for the Panthers, notching 24 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
The native of Lakeland, Florida also earned a 3.17 GPA in biological and biomedical sciences, participating in extensive research on Alzheimer’s disease in hopes of being accepted into medical school.
His further extracurricular activities include: Student Government Association senator, president of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, member of pre-med club, member of Calvary Chapel of Melbourne’s IT team and a volunteer at Century Oaks assisted living facility.

“Kevin’s an outstanding individual both on and off the field,” said head coach Greg Berkemeier.
“He has never said a negative word about an opponent or official even after being hit 26 times over his career, including 13 times this season. He’s always the last guy to leave after we get home from a road trip to make sure that the bus is clean and that all equipment is accounted for.”
“He’s an incredible team leader both on and off the field,” said Berkemeier.
This year, the award winner will be determined by fan voting on a microsite.
Fans are eligible to cast their vote up to three times a day at FansChoiceAward.com through Twitter, Facebook and by logging into the Fan’s Choice Award website beginning May 26.
The voting process is a bracket style competition, and the schedule will be as follows:
– Round 1 (18 players) – 5/26 thru 6/8
– Round 2 (10 players) – 6/8 thru 6/15
– Round 3 (4 players) – 6/15 thru 6/22 – WINNER ANNOUNCED June 22nd after Noon CT voting closes
Fans are encouraged to promote Wortman’s nomination by using the hashtag #VoteWort.
The TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award winner will have the opportunity to be recognized on July 2, 2015 at the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Nebraska, the site of the NCAA Division I College World Series.
