Melbourne Police Identify Dead Man In Sunday Police Shooting

Melbourne police identified Matthew McDaniel, 35, as the dead man in Sunday night’s shooting in the Burger King parking lot, located at 1514 S. Harbor City Boulevard.
According to police, McDaniel was the suspect captured on surveillance video in several robberies, including a Subway in Palm Bay, two convenience stores and a CVS drug store in Melbourne.
According to police, as officers approached McDaniel’s car in the Burger King Parking lot, he tried to drive away but his escape was blocked. As the officers approached, McDaniel pulled out a handgun and six officers opened fire.
The officers were placed on routine administrative leave and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

Person of Interest Shot, Killed By Melbourne Police
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police officers shot and killed a person of interest in a recent local robbery spree, according to Melbourne police.
The shooting happened Sunday at about 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Burger King, located at 1514 S. Harbor City Boulevard.
Melbourne police had been seeking a suspect who matched the description of the victim for several robberies, and when officers approached the victim’s car, he displayed a gun, according to police.
None of the six Melbourne police officers who were involved in the shooting were injured.
The shooting is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
