New Brevard Public Schools Superintendent To Be Paid $210,000 Annual Salary

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – New Brevard County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Desmond Blackburn will be paid an annual salary of $210,000 with any future raises tied to performance.
The School Board of Brevard Public Schools, in a 5-0 vote approved the compensation and contract for Blackburn, who will lead the 73,000 student district.
Blackburn currently serves as the chief school accountability officer for the School Board of Broward County, Florida.
He has also served as an area superintendent, area director for school improvement, and secondary principal; all in Broward County.
In addition to his experiences in Broward County, Blackburn served as an adjunct professor for Florida Atlantic University and is the CEO/President for D&G Leadership, Inc.
If his contract is terminated by the School Board, Blackburn will receive 20 week’s pay, even if he acquires new employment. Blackburn will also receive a district car, which he may utilize for personal use in Brevard County only.
Blackburn will officially begin his tenure with Brevard Public Schools on July 20, and Dr. Brian Binggeli will conclude his contract on June 30.
To provide continuation of leadership, the School Board appointed Dr. Debra Pace, associate superintendent of human resources, as acting superintendent until Blackburn’s official start.
