BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Fire responded to a report of a structure fire at 1390 Thorton Avenue on Monday at about 4:02 p.m. One person was found deceased, along with at least one pet.
Enroute units were advised that TPD had arrived, reporting heavy smoke that was getting darker by the moment. Truck 12, District 10 and EMS 1 arrived within four minutes to find a single story residential structure with heavy smoke and fire issuing from the back half of the structure.
Truck 12 attempted to complete an initial 360 of the building and found a power line down in the rear, which inhibited them from completing the walk-around.
E-10, T-13, R-13, E-11, Fire 1 and Fire 2 arrived with neighbors advising they were sure there was someone still inside the house.
Crews attempted to make entry inside the structure and were met with heavy fire load. Crews pulled ceiling as they entered and was met with heavy fire causing crews to back out of the structure.
FPL secured power to the structure and crews were then able to make a better attack on the fire from the rear where the main body of fire was located.
Temperature in the 90s, coupled with a large bee hive, live power line on the ground, and the large fire load made for difficult conditions.
BCFR Truck and Rescue 24 assisted so that crews could begin to rehab and rotate out.
Once the fire was knocked down, crews were able to make entry to most of the structure and at that time one person was found deceased, along with at least one pet.
Crews were on scene for several hours fully extinguishing the fire and assisting the State Marshal with the investigation, which will continue on Tuesday.
