Brevard Manatees Take Game Two Against Tampa, Sweep Doubleheader

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Manatees (12-13, 41-53 overall) scored three times in the second inning en route to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Yankees (12-13, 46-49 overall) in game two of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Garrett Cooper lined a single to right field to lead off the inning. Taylor Brennan then drilled a double down the right field line.

Cooper scored on the Brennan double and tied the game at one. Jose Pena lined a base hit up the middle and plated Brennan. Rafael Neda stepped up and singled through the right side. After a Steven Halcomb sacrifice bunt, Angel Ortega recorded an RBI with a grounder to short.

Zach Hirsch (1-0, 3.60 ERA) earned the win in his Brevard County debut. He tossed five innings and allowed two runs on five. Hirsch did not walk a man and struck out one. He unofficially threw 79 pitches and 54 for strikes.

Eric Wooten (0-2, 3.14 ERA) took the loss for Tampa. He lasted just four innings in his spot start and gave up three runs on six hits.

Preston Gainey tossed two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh to earn his third save of the year.

Brevard County will start a four-game series with the St. Lucie Mets tomorrow night. LHP Wei-Chung Wang (7-2, 4.15 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Manatees.

The Mets will send RHP Rob Whalen (4-5, 3.39 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 in St. Lucie.
