Derek Gores Channels Andy Warhol For Foosaner Art Museum Fundraiser

Pop Art Exhibition OPEN through Aug. 30
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Institute of Technology’s Foosaner Art Museum and Derek Gores Gallery are joining forces to give your favorite photos the Andy Warhol treatment.
Inspired by the museum’s current exhibition, Pop Art in America, which features works from key participants in that movement including Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jim Dine, Gores will take provided pictures and recreate Warhol’s distinctive screen print portrait style in high-resolution digital prints on paper.
“When I heard of the fun Pop Art exhibition, I had this idea as my chance to channel Andy Warhol while raising money for the Foosaner,” Gores said, adding that the museum is a key part of both the Eau Gallie Arts District, where it is located, and all of Brevard County.
“It is a wise stance that Florida Tech aims to ‘educate the whole mind,’ and the museum is key in that statement,” Gores added. “I’m very excited for upcoming exhibitions and the vision for the growth of the facility and its permanent collection.”
Carla Funk, Florida Tech’s director of university museums, said the Foosaner is “thrilled” to partner with Gores.
“Thanks to his generosity, you can capture your personal 15 minutes of fame, own an original, signed work of art and support your local museum – all with one click,” Funk said.
The process works like this: Select a photo portrait or selfie. Then head to https://give.fit.edu/warhol and fill out the order form.
The cost is $100 for a single portrait or $175 for a double portrait. Both are 18 inches by 24 inches. Then e-mail the picture to email@example.com.
Wait 30 days and then pick up your print at the Foosaner Art Museum gift shop, 1463 Highland Ave. in Melbourne.
The museum’s Pop Art exhibition, organized by the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, will remain on view through Aug. 30. In related programming, the museum will screen the film, “Andy Warhol: The Complete Picture” at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in its Harris Community Auditorium.
