EFSC Golf Coach Jamie Howell Hosts Junior Summer Camp

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Registration is being accepted for two golf camps hosted by Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell at the Fred Gay Golf Academy on SR 524 in Cocoa.

The first, a Junior Camp open to players ages 8 to 17, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. July 7-10 at the cost of $95 per camper. Enrollment is limited to 16.

Junior Camps focus on fundamentals with emphasis on the short game, fairway play and tee shots. Traditional golf etiquette and rules will be stressed. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The second camp, a High School Players Camp open to girls and boys, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 3-6. The cost is $150 per camper.

Enrollment is limited to 16. Participants must be a member of a high school golf team.

The camp is designed to prepare high school golfers for the upcoming season. Day one will consist of nine holes at a local golf course. Days two and three will be consist of training at Fred Gay Golf Academy. Day four will feature nine holes at a local golf course.

The camp will assist high school players with their practice and warm-up regime, course management, golf statistics, nutrition and hydration and tournament mindset. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

This spring Howell led Eastern Florida to its 13th straight appearance at the NJCAA Division I Men’s National Championship tournament. The Titans finished second, their best effort under Howell.

Howell received the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award presented by Golf Pride Grips as the top coach in NJCAA Division I.

Also, three Titans earned NJCAA first team All-American honors: freshmen Mickey DeMorat and Kerry Sweeney and sophomore Drew Cooke.

Sweeney also was a PING first-team All-America and winner of the Phil Mickelson Award Presented by the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation as the most outstanding freshman in NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf and the Nicklaus Award as the Golf Coaches Association of America Collegiate Player of the Year at the NJCAA level.
