BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida rising sophomore golfer Mickey DeMorat came up one shot short of having an opportunity to play in the Aug. 17-23 U.S. Amateur.
Competing in Wednesday’s and Thursday’s qualifier at Hobe Sound Golf Club, DeMorat shot an 18-hole total of 142.
Three others finished at 141 and played off for one remaining U.S. Amateur spot. The first spot went to the low score of 137.
DeMorat’s Eastern Florida teammate rising sophomore Kerry Sweeney will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Amateur on Monday and Tuesday at Ocala National Golf Club.
The U.S. Amateur will be played at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois.

“I hung in there to give myself a chance today but unfortunately came up a little short,” DeMorat said.
“I did quite a few good things and will learn from what I didn’t quite do as well.”
Also, DeMorat, of Merritt Island, and Sweeney, of Melbourne, will play in the July 15-18 Southern Amateur at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
