Joe LeBlanc’s Brevard County Little League Report For July 1

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After a 2-hour weather delay at McKnight Family Sports Complex, the junior softball division saw Mims Little League and North Merritt Island Little League battle in a back and forth 7-inning game Wednesday night.
Mims took the lead in the top of the seventh, 15-14, but Merritt Island scored 2 runs in their half of the seventh to win 16-15. This sets up a third game to decide the division which is currently scheduled for Thursday night.
For Mims, Trew and Campbell each roped in doubles, Landers laced a double and a triple.
Merritt Island’s Lambert recorded a double and Stephenson and Gifford each had triples.
Also after the weather delay in the major softball division at the McKnight Complex, Mims (visitor) met Rockledge for the second game in their series.
Rockledge’s S. Smith went 2-for-2 at the plate with 3 RBI and C. Tuttle was 2-for-3 with a double. Rockledge pitcher, Kyla Berry pitched the entire game allowing 1 hit and no walks with 8 strikeouts in 4 innings.
Rockledge won the game 10-0, to claim the District 22 Champion title and advance to the Florida Section 3 tournament which will be played July 18 at McKnight Family Sports Complex in Rockledge.
The 11-12 year old baseball and Junior baseball divisions at Mims’ Holder Park were rained out Tuesday night. Those games have been rescheduled.
