SHERIFF UPDATE: 14 Drug Overdoses, One Fatality Caused By Fentanyl

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, with the cooperation of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, has received preliminary results of the drugs found to have been responsible for some of the overdoses that were reported yesterday.
According to Maj. Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that the substance submitted for analysis was Fentanyl.
The investigation has determined that individuals are purchasing and ingesting what they believe to be Heroin, but is actually almost pure Fentanyl.
The number of overdoses to date is 14, with one fatality.
Fentanyl has been found to be up to 50 times more potent than Heroin and tends to produce significant respiratory depression.
Fentanyl is extremely dangerous and the effects can be transmitted even through contact with the skin. Anyone who may be in possession of what they believe to be Heroin may be actually in possession of Fentanyl.
