BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Bochy earned the honor by leading the National League San Francisco Giants to their third World Series championship in five years in 2014.
Bochy also managed the National League All-Stars in 1999, when he was skipper of the San Diego Padres who lost the 1998 World Series to the New York Yankees, and in 2011 and 2013 following 2010 and 2012 World Series triumphs with the Giants.
The National League lost the 1999 All-Star game to the American League, 4-1; won the 2011 game 5-1 but lost the 2013 game 3-0.
EFSC’s baseball field on the Melbourne Campus is named for Bochy who played nine years in the big leagues and is in his 21st year as a manager.
He was named National League Manager of the Year in 1996 for leading the Padres to a 91-71 record.
Bochy earned collegiate All-America status in 1975 as he led Brevard Community College – now Eastern Florida State College – to a state championship under head coach Jack Kenworthy. Bochy also is a graduate of Melbourne High School.
Four players who competed collegiately in the Florida College System Activities Association are on the rosters for the All-Star game.
Lorenzo Cain of the World Series runner-up Kansas City Royals, who played at Tallahassee Community College; Jose Bautista and Russell Martin, both of the Toronto Blue Jays, who played at Chipola College; and Dee Gordon of the Miami Marlins who played at Seminole State.
