BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Grand Villa of Melbourne is scheduled to open a state-of-the-art Memory Care Neighborhood this October.
Located on U.S. 1 at Nasa Boulevard in Melbourne, the new building is specially designed for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Grand Villa’s philosophy encourages Memory Care residents to explore, touch and choose their own activities allowing each resident the freedom to Live Life with a Purpose®.
“We are very excited about opening our Memory Care Neighborhood, as it offers an all-new concept for the Brevard community,” said Brenda Jones, Executive Director of Grand Villa of Melbourne.
“Our caring staff has the most up to date training, and our seasoned managers are trained as Dementia Practitioners and State Certified Alzheimer’s trainers,” said Jones.
The Memory Care Neighborhood has specially designed areas that spark memories, interest and interaction for residents.
Life Skill Stations recreate familiar situations from the past – like a baby nursery, a garden, or a hobby workbench. Residents become socially engaged in these familiar settings, which provides them with cognitive exercises and physical movement.
Residents will have the choice of living in a Key West style neighborhood or a traditional Charleston style neighborhood.
“Apartments will have a front porch and a beautiful gabled roof over the front door which allows residents to easily navigate throughout the community,” said Jones.
“The design will look like home. We’ll have life skill stations conveniently located in the hallway, and one exciting new feature is an old fashioned News Stand.”
The Memory Care program blends cutting-edge technology and the latest research in memory care to create activities specifically for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Residents will be involved in daily recreational and therapeutic activities, such as Dakim® Brain Fitness, music therapy and pet therapy to preserve independence.
The home-like environment will allow freedom of movement in an exit-controlled setting.
“We’ve included motion sensor lighting so our resident care team will be alerted when residents get out of bed. The full lighting system includes special lights in and around the bathroom, which offers a guiding light at night. The entire community will be state-of-the-art,” said Jones.
