ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCFKnights.com) – The back-to-back American Athletic Conference champion UCF Knights were picked to finish second in the East Division, the league office announced at its annual media day in Rhode Island Tuesday.

Voting was conducted by 30 of the league’s media representatives.

Cincinnati received 29 of the 30 first-place votes to win the division, with the Knights receiving the other. UCF also earned one vote to win its third straight conference title. In the west division, Memphis edged Houston followed by Navy.

UCF went undefeated at 8-0 for the outright conference title when the league debuted in 2013. It followed that up with a 7-1 mark to share the trophy in 2014, giving the Knights a combined 15-1 record and a pair of championships in their first two seasons as a member of The American.

The 2015 campaign marks the first in which The American will field two divisions. UCF’s last season in divisional play came in 2012 when it captured the Conference USA East Division crown.

The Black and Gold’s first practice of the preseason is slated for Wednesday. Friday, Aug. 21, is the date to mark down as it will feature the Countdown to Kickoff Luncheon starting at 11 a.m. at CFE Arena, an open practice from 3:20-5:30 p.m. and then the extremely popular UCF FanFest at 6 p.m.
