Florida Highway Patrol Investigating Fatal Crash On I-95 In Malabar, All Lanes Now Open

BREVARD COUNTY • MALABAR, FLORIDA — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday at about 5:55 p.m. on I-95 southbound near Malabar, just south of Palm Bay Road.

 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 35-year old man from Cocoa Beach was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on I-95, and 61-year old James Digeorgio, Jr. of Palm Bay was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup, also traveling south on I-95.

Traffic was stopped on the paved shoulder on the exit ramp at Malabar Road, which forced the pickup truck to stop.

According to FHP, for an unknown reason, the motorcycle driver failed to stop and struck the rear of of the pickup truck.

After the collision the motorcycle overturned, traveled across all southbound lanes and came to a rest next to the center guardrail.

According to FHP, the motorcycle rider, who has not been identified pending notification of next-of-kin, died at Holmes Regional Medical Center. The victim was not wearing a helmet.

This crash remain under investigation.
