BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa police reported that a man entered Joe’s Bestway Deli, located at 1129 Peachtree Street at about 12:22 p.m. and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.
The clerk handed the suspect money, and the suspect demanded more.
According to Lieutenant Eric Austin of the Cocoa Police Department, when the clerk told the suspect he did not have any more money, the suspect fired the gun toward the ground to intimidate the clerk into giving more money.
The clerk was not injured.
The suspect fled the store on foot, and after a search by a K-9 track and air search, authorities did not locate the suspect.
According to Lt. Eric Austin, the suspect is a black male, in his early 20s, approximately 6-foot tall, skinny build and wearing all black with a black bandana over his face.
“Originally, information came in about a black Kia SUV that may have been involved,” said Lt. Eric Austin.
“It was determined the suspect requested the driver of the SUV to help him get away, but she drove off when she realized what he did. The suspect did not try to forcefully get into the SUV or carjack the driver. The driver was cooperative with the investigation.”
