BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Following outstanding performances over the past week, women’s cross country harrier Kerstin Axelsson and football running back Antwuan Haynes have been named Florida Tech’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week.

Axelsson was the first freshman to cross the finish line at last Saturday’s Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.

Racing against 204 runners from non-Division I schools, the Skänninge, Sweden native completed her first 5K race of her collegiate career in ninth place with a time of 18:59.34.

Her superb performance helped the Panthers finish sixth out of 21 teams.

Haynes, a true freshman, added an explosive element to the Panthers’ offense in FIT’s 37-0 victory over Warner on Saturday at Florida Tech Panther Stadium.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native needed just nine carries to exceed the century mark, picking up 107 yards including a 32-yard touchdown scamper.

Haynes’ efforts were good enough to land FIT’s first Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week honor.
