Eastern Florida State Host Annual Titan Madness Event

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A good time – and pizza too – was had by all.

Eastern Florida’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, both coming off 2014-2015 championship seasons tipped off their 2015-2015 campaigns with the annual Titan Madness event on Tuesday.

Held at the Titan Field House on the Melbourne Campus where the men have won 47 straight games and the women finished 11-1 last season Titan Madness drew a large, loud crowd that obviously enjoyed the activities.

The evening began with team introductions and moved to the skills challenge featuring a free throw, a shot from the wing, a three-pointer and a half-court shot.

The event was won by the team of men’s assistant coach Reggie Freeman, sophomore men’s guard Will Gibson and sophomore women’s guard Brittany Wells.

Men’s freshman guard Keoni Wallington won the men’s three-point challenge and went on to beat women’s winner sophomore Emma Grimes, 12-11.

The mixed men’s-women’s team coached by women’s assistant Olivia Atwell defeated the team coached by Freeman in a 20-minute running clock scrimmage.

The evening’s highlight was the fan half-court shot for free pizza for a year from Marco’s Pizza. The winner was Sean Poole, 33, of Melbourne.

The finale event was the dunk contest won by men’s freshman Richard Gaines over sophomore B.J. Gladden.

The men, the three-team defending Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference champions, open their season with the Oct. 30-31 Eastern Florida Holiday Classic in the Titan Field House, playing USC-Salkahatchie and Atlanta Metro on Friday and Saturday respectively. Also participating is Daytona State College which also plays USC-Salkahatchie and Atlanta Metro.

The women, who also won the FCSAA Southern Conference championship, open their season at 4 p.m. Oct. 31, hosting ASA Miami also in Melbourne.

Admission to all events is free.
