BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Students from Rockledge High, currently enrolled in the school’s first year maritime program, went on a field trip to Port Canaveral earlier this month to experience firsthand the magnitude of the Port’s daily operation.

During the visit, students surveyed the Port’s routine procedures and received a personalized tour led by officers of the U.S. Coast Guard fleet stationed at Port Canaveral.

Sponsored by the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral, the field trip was a first of its kind as the maritime program is a new career and technical education program.

This three year program is designed to give students a broad understanding about the maritime industry.

Due to the expansion of Port Canaveral, there is an immediate need to train and develop the next generation of career minded students interested in all aspects of port operations, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and security.
