BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech true freshman running back and return specialist Antwuan Haynes has been named the Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 7, announced Monday.

The laurel is the third GSC weekly award for Haynes and the second special teams player of the week honor for FIT after Gary Holmes replicated the feat in Week 5.

The cornerstone of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native’s selection came in the fourth quarter of FIT’s 34-7 trouncing of Fort Valley State, when he returned a punt 76 yards for the first punt return for a touchdown in program history.

Haynes broke loose on the opening kickoff of the second half, hitting a hole and crossing midfield for a 43-yard return. His numbers were skewed slightly later in the game when forced to come up for a short kick, gaining only four yards.

Haynes also saw time in the backfield, making his first career start. He finished the game with seven carries for 31 yards, good for a 4.4 yards per carry average.

Shorter running back B.J. McCoy was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Week, while Delta State linebacker De’Koven Ware secured the defensive award. Additionally, West Alabama quarterback Harry Satterwhite received the conference freshman of the week honor.
