BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department has arrested Michael Donato Medina, 24, Saturday morning around 1 a.m. after allegedly committing an armed robbery at 1808 Jackson Street in Melbourne.
The suspect approached two victims, pointing a revolver at them and demanded money as they were standing in front of their house, according to a Melbourne police spokesperson.
Medina had a black shirt wrapped around his head to conceal his identity. The victims were then forced up to the doorway of the house where a struggle ensued and the firearm discharged.
The victims were able to wrestle the firearm away from the suspect, shooting him once. They then detained him until officers arrived on scene.
The suspect was hospitalized with a non-life threatening gunshot wound, treated and transported to the county jail on Saturday afternoon, according to police.
Medina was released from the prison in April of this year after serving time for armed burglary and grand theft of a firearm.
