Palm Bay Fire-Rescue Kicks Off Fire Prevention Week Starting October 9

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Friday, October 9 kicks off Fire Prevention Week, a nationally recognized week throughout the United States.

Palm Bay Fire-Rescue crews have turned Fire Prevention Week into a full month of events beginning in September with the MDA Ladder Climb and the MDA Boot Drop.

Both events were a huge success and Palm Bay Fire-Rescue would like thank the public for their generous contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Palm Bay Fire-Rescue has a full schedule with 48 public education events throughout the month of October.

Saturday, October 3 crews will be at the Home Depot on Malabar Road from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to share the message on Fire Prevention Week.

Palm Bay Fire-Rescue has partnered with the American Red Cross and Palm Bay Fire Benevolent, to check smoke alarms in the Holiday Park community. They have replaced 196 smoke alarms already this year with help from 15 American Red Cross Volunteers. Crews plan to continue in the community until everyone can “HEAR THE BEEP WHEN YOU SLEEP.”

October 5 through October 8 Palm Bay Fire-Rescue will be partnering with local Domino’s Pizza to bring free pizza to customers allowing fire crews to check their smoke detectors.

On the dates and times below, with the correlating Domino’s stores, anyone who orders a Domino’s pizza may be randomly selected and surprised at the door when their pizza arrives aboard a fire engine. If the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free. If the smoke alarms are not working, the firefighters will replace the batteries.

• Oct. 5, 7 and 8 from 4 – 7 p.m., Domino’s located at 3555 Bayside Lake Blvd. SE
• Oct. 5 – 7 from 4 – 7 p.m., Domino’s located at 4700 Babcock St. NE
• Oct. 6 and 8 from 4 – 7 p.m., Domino’s located at 5108 Minton Road NW

The Fire Safety House will continue visiting local schools. The visitations started on September 25, allowing 600 students from Turner Elementary to go through the house and learn about Fire Prevention. Next stop for the Safety House is Lockmar Elementary on October 14th.

Palm Bay Firefighters are excited to announce the annual Fire Safety Event at Walmart on Malabar Rd, October 10th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fire Marshal Ron Bailey will announce the six winners of the Fire Safety Poster contest from area schools.

The prize for winners is a shopping trip at Walmart with a Palm Bay firefighter for a new bicycle sponsored by Palm Bay Fire Benevolent.

The 3 hour event will also include Palm Bay Firefighters live demonstration of vehicle extrication using the Jaws of Life, live fire demonstration with fire extinguishers, hands on CPR training, pet CPR, face painting for the kids and much more.

Shirts for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Shirt Campaign, will also be available at this event. Palm Bay Firefighters Dalmatian, Lucy looks forward to seeing you there so come on out and enjoy a day with your Palm Bay Firefighters.
