A 75-year-old Cocoa Beach resident in a mobility scooter was struck and killed in a crash with a vehicle in Cocoa Beach on Thursday night.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – A 75-year-old Cocoa Beach resident in a mobility scooter was struck and killed in a crash with a vehicle in Cocoa Beach on Thursday night.

According to Cocoa Beach Police Patrol Commander Major Scott Rosenfeld, Joseph Thompson was attempting to cross 6th Street at S. Orlando Avenue (State Road A1A) in his electric mobility scooter-wheelchair at about 6 p.m.when he was struck by a 2005 Toyota driven by Luke French, 18, of Cocoa Beach.

Thompson was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, no charges have been filed and the investigation is active and ongoing.
