BREVARD COUNTY  MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — A new state-of-the art playground system will soon replace the old playground equipment at Wells Park, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program.

The new playground system will include features specifically designed to help children ages five to 12 improve their overall physical fitness and agility.

All equipment in the new system will be manufactured with sustainable materials, have no toxic ingredients, will be rust-resistant, have a longer life cycle, and will be fully recyclable.

During the November 10 Melbourne City Council meeting Kevin Jones of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) made the grant award official by presenting a ceremonial check to Mayor Kathy Meehan.

Construction on the new playground system is set to begin before the end of the year with a projected opening date of early 2016.
