Rosa, Jackson Claim Florida Tech Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech volleyball’s Kiersten Rosa and men’s basketball’s Corbin Jackson earned Panther Student-Athlete of the Week laurels on Monday for their performance during the week of Nov. 9-15.

Rosa registered two of the best performances of her young career to help the Panthers to a 1-1 record versus two of the nation’s elite teams last week.

The freshman played a huge role in FIT’s 3-1 upset victory over No. 17 Florida Southern on Tuesday. She recorded 30 assists, eight digs and a season-high seven kills to guide the volleyball team to its first win over a ranked opponent since the 2010 season, and the first over a Top 20 opponent since 2005.

The Mims, Florida native continued her impressive run in FIT’s next match against No. 8 Tampa, where Rosa notched a team-high 19 assists, seven kills, four digs, two blocks and two service aces.

Jackson, the Sunshine State Conference’s double-double leader from a year ago, averaged 16 points and 12.5 rebounds to help FIT to a pair of wins in its season opening weekend in the NCAA South Regional Challenge.

The redshirt-senior accounted for 15 points, 10 boards and four assists in the Panthers’ 94-88 victory over Clark Atlanta. He followed up that performance with 17 points, 15 rebounds, two blocks and two steals to help the Crimson and Gray overcome a 15-point second-half deficit to edge Paine 94-92 in overtime, giving the Panthers their third consecutive 2-0 start.

For his efforts, the Rockledge, Florida native was awarded the season’s first SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor.

The volleyball team closes out its season with two home matches this weekend against Barry on Friday at 7 p.m. ET and No. 9 Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 7 p.m. FIT’s contest versus the Sailfish will be the Panthers’ Senior Night.

Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team dives into Sunshine State Conference action this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Tampa.
