Driver Lost Control, Crashed In Front Yard of Home On Montclair Road

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — An 18-year-old male was arrested by Cocoa police and is facing a list of felony crimes after ramming a police K-9 car and fleeing on Thursday at 5:51 p.m.

According to Cocoa Police spokesperson Yvonne Martinez, Kqamane Omar Washington, 18, was driving a 2007 Nissan Frontier which had just been reported stolen.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Cocoa Police Officer Brian Delos Santos attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Pineda Street and Cypress Lane.

As Officer Delos Santos exited his patrol car, the suspect driver put the truck in reverse and rammed the patrol car as Officer Delos Santos was in the door wedge, and his K-9 “Cairo” was in the back seat.

The car sustained severe front end damage and was not drivable. Officer Delos Santos and his dog were not injured.

ABOVE MAP: At approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Cocoa Police Officer Brian Delos Santos attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Pineda Street and Cypress Lane.

As the suspect vehicle fled with five occupants inside (including the driver), Cocoa Police Officer George Menendez followed.

A short time later, the driver lost control and crashed in the front yard of a home on Montclair Road near Myrtle Lane.

Officers immediately secured the occupants of the vehicle and called for paramedics to render aid. The driver was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and charges against him are pending.

The passengers in the vehicle were juveniles. Two went to the hospital for treatment, one of which had a warrant and will be taken into custody upon medical clearance. Another juvenile was returned to parents and the other was returned to Crosswinds, a residential youth services facility.

The investigation is ongoing.
