Cocoa Structure Fire Thursday Morning Claims Man’s Life, Investigation Continues

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene of a structure fire at the 1700 block on Nomad Street that claimed the life of a man this morning.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital at around 8 a.m.
At around 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a woman reporting a trailer was on fire and said a man was inside the burning structure, according to Yvonne Martinez, public information officer for the Cocoa Police Department.
When firefighters arrived they immediately deployed rescue operations to find the victim inside. Firefighters were able to remove the victim and attempted to render aid. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Cocoa firefighters with assistance from Brevard County Fire Rescue were able to extinguish the fire and there were no other injuries reported.
Detectives are working with fire investigators to determine the cause, origin of the fire and the circumstances by which the victim was unable to escape.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to determine what occurred.
The name of the victim is not known at this time.
