Eastern Florida Men Defeat St. Petersburg College 75-71, 52 Straight Home Wins

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s men’s basketball team got 13 points apiece from freshman sixth man Kareem Brewton and sophomore forward Djordje Beronja to defeat host St. Petersburg College 75-71 in overtime on Wednesday.

The victory improved Eastern Florida’s record to 10-1. St. Petersburg dropped to 6-6 with its second close loss to Eastern Florida in eight days.

Eastern Florida, ranked 18th nationally, defeated St. Petersburg 63-58 on Nov. 24 in Melbourne, running its home court winning streak to 52 games.

Eastern Florida led 37-33 at halftime on Wednesday and built an 11-point lead, 54-43. But, St. Petersburg outscored the Titans 23-12 down the stretch for a 66-66 tie at the end of regulation.

“It was an amazing win,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman whose team reached the 10-1 mark on Dec. 5 of last season en route to a 29-5 record and Dec. 11 of 2013 en route to a 23-6 campaign.

Sophomore B.J. Gladden collected 14 rebounds on Wednesday as Eastern Florida won the battle of the boards 58-44.

Eastern Florida was 8-for-22 from the three-point line to 4-for-22 for St. Petersburg. Eastern Florida struggled from the free throw line going 15-for-25 while St. Petersburg was 17-for-28.

Next up for the Titans is a 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 game against TAAG Academy of Tampa. Admission is free.
