BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police have arrested the son of a man who died Thursday morning in a trailer fire. The son is in custody facing charges of murder and arson.

Isaac Maicus, 35, was at the scene at the time of the incident and made admissions to detectives about starting the fire with his father still inside, according to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez.

Stanley Maicus, 67, was pronounced deceased at the hospital after firefighters pulled him from the burning trailer.

Emergency dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 4:27 a.m. from a woman reporting a fire inside a trailer in the 1700 block of Nomad Street in the Sunrise Village community.

The woman reported an adult male later identified as Stanley Maicus, was still inside. Firefighters entered the burning structure and pulled the victim out. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation revealed the fire appeared to have been deliberately set. Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed the arson and were able to recover evidence, according to Martinez.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and located the victim’s son outside the home.

“He admitted to setting the fire,” said Detective Ben Erskine.

“He knew his father was inside the trailer at the time and he made no attempt to get him out.”

The motive for the crime is unclear however there is a prior incident of violence between the father and son.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm cause and manner of death.

The cause and origin of the arson is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal.
