It was part of the police department’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event where each child was paired with an officer to spend $125 on whatever they wanted. Wal-Mart gave the department at $2,500 grant to pay for the event and also helped make the children feel like VIP’s with a “red-carpet” style entrance. “Wal-Mart was great donating the funds and the resources along with a few extras to make this a really fantastic event,” said Sgt. Mike Dellatore who manages the Community Relations Unit for the police department. “The kids were great too. A lot of them bought gifts for family members in addition to themselves. This is what it’s all about.”

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Patrol officers, detectives and police department staff picked up more than a dozen children from school today to take them on a “field trip” where they were the VIP guest in a lights and sirens motorcade to Wal-Mart.
It was part of the police department’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event where each child was paired with an officer to spend $125 on whatever they wanted.
