BOB FREEMAN’S WEEKEND SURF REPORT FOR JAN. 22-24

Waves are looking mostly unrideable this morning. Late-morning's lower tide could help make the small waves more rideable by then. Surfers seeking an early morning surf session may want to focus on Cocoa Beach's northernmost beaches for a longboardable wave. — Saturday’s surf will build into the waist-high range with bumpy surface conditions from a steady northeasterly wind.

SURF REPORT FOR JAN. 22-24

Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard's waves since 1966. — Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard’s waves since 1966.Waves are not looking very fun this morning. There is plenty of northeasterly groundswell remaining, but onshore winds from passing storms are producing sloppy conditions.

FRIDAY: Surf this Friday morning is running in the waist-high range with very bumpy and drifty conditions from a strong southeasterly wind. An approaching cold front producing stormy conditions during the day will also provide improved surfing conditions later in the day as the front moves closer and winds switch more offshore.

SATURDAY: Saturday’s surf will decrease into the knee-high range with semi-clean conditions from a strong northwesterly wind.

SUNDAY: I expect strong off-shore winds to continue and may produce mostly un-rideable surfing conditions along our beaches.

Cocoa Beach ocean temperatures now average 60 degrees.

Bob Freeman has been surfing Brevard’s waves since 1966. He was also the first to surf several of North Carolina’s remote islands in the mid ’60s and travels frequently to surf in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico and Hawaii. He provided his first surf reporting and weekend forecasts in 1968 live on WKKO radio from the RonJon Surf Shop on Cocoa Beach Pier. He was the 1968 Florida Men’s Surfing Champion and is the current Florida Legend’s Surfing Champion. He has gathered over 300 amateur 1st place awards in both shortboard and longboard divisions. He is a 2014 Inductee into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame.
