BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – DeLise Williams and Sam Daniel of the Florida Tech women’s and men’s basketball teams earned Panther Student-Athlete of the Week laurels on Monday for their performances during the week of Jan. 4-11.

Williams’ performance and effort in all areas of the court were key factors in guiding the Panthers to a 1-1 record during the previous week. The sophomore guard registered 16 points and hit 9-of-10 from the charity stripe in the 63-47 win over Saint Leo. She filled up the stat sheet as well, recording a career-high six steals in addition to four rebounds, three assists and one block to help FIT improve its record in Sunshine State Conference play to 5-1.

Williams followed up that showing with seven points, six boards and three steals versus Palm Beach Atlantic.

Through 14 games, the Pompano Beach, Florida native is third on the team in points and fifth in rebounding. Her 33 steals and 2.3 steals per game average both rank second in the SSC.

Despite a down week for head coach Billy Mims and company, Daniel was a model of consistency for the Panthers. Celebrating his birthday last Wednesday, the sophomore notched nine points on 3-of-6 from the floor to go along with six rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

Three days later, Daniel registered 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and five rebounds in Florida Tech’s 78-71 setback at Palm Beach Atlantic.

At the midway point of the season, the Kingsland, Georgia native is second on the team in both rebounding and three-point field goal percentage.

In addition, his 10 double-figure scoring performances have already doubled his total output in all of 2014-15.

FIT’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will jump back into SSC action Wednesday with home meetings with Rollins. The Panther women face the Tars at 5:30 p.m. ET and the men’s game follows with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

The women’s team was swept by RC in both matchups last season, while the men swept the Tars in both meetings a year ago, winning by an average of 8.5 points per game.
