BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Alexander Huiras is a young man with a plan and his accomplishments to date far exceed the average teenager.
A student at Florida Prep since eighth grade, Huiras is already a certified lifeguard, open water diver and sky diver.
An accomplished athlete, he represents Florida Prep at the varsity level in baseball, cross country and track. Additionally, he is a leader in the school’s JROTC unit and participates in the National Honor Society.
Huiras manages all of these activities while maintaining a 3.9 GPA in Honors, AP and college level courses.
No stranger to honors, in his junior year Huiras scooped the Kitty Hawk Air Society Citizenship Award and the Military Officers Award.
Recently, he was accepted into The Citadel for college. During a recent Melbourne Chamber of Commerce ceremony, Huiras was awarded the prestigious distinction of being named the “Young Adult of the Month.”
“I feel truly privileged to receive such recognition,” said Huiras.
Such a humble response is typical of Huiras as many of the audience members spoke to him personally after the ceremony and wished him well for the future.
Huiras’ Proud mother Carla Meza said, “Florida Prep changed our family’s lives. The school has provided the support, guidance and education that led to my son’s success. Registering Alex at Florida Prep was one of the most important decisions of his life.”
