Kareem Brewton, Paola Vasquez Earn EFSC Student-Athlete of Month Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Basketball players Kareem Brewton and Paola Vasquez are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of December.
Brewton, a freshman guard from Snellville, Georgia and Shiloh High, finished the month with 66 points, 17 rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals in four games. He also finished the month as the team’s leading scorer averaging 14.7 points per game.
Brewton had two games where he scored 18 points. On Dec. 13 in a 90-78 victory over Polk State, Brewton scored 18 points and recorded four steals, three assists, three rebounds and a block.
The majority of his minutes came as the first player off the bench or the team’s sixth man.
Eastern Florida’s men finished December with a 12-2 record.
Vasquez, a sophomore guard from Ciales, Puerto Rico and Florida Prep, finished December with 58 points, 18 rebounds, nine steals, nine assists and five blocks in four games and was the team’s leading scorer averaging 14.3 points per game.
She also was ranked as high as fifth nationally for three-point shooting.
Her best game of the month was an 18-point, three-steal, two-assist, three-rebound performance in a 70-63 loss to defending national champion Chipola College.
Playing the nation’s toughest schedule according to the Massey Ratings, Eastern Florida’s women finished December with a 7-6 record.
