BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – We have an exciting month planned at the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary.  

We hope you will join us for one of the many programs and events we are offering.  All events are FREE unless otherwise noted!

Every Saturday at 10:00amGuided Walk

Enjoy a 45-minute guided hike.  Please bring hat, water and walking shoes. No reservation needed, unless you are a group of 5 or more.

Wednesday, March 2nd, 1:30pm – 3:00pm – Sanctuary School – Reptiles & Amphibians

Homeschoolers ages 6-10 and their families will discover the local reptiles and amphibians that live in East Central Florida!  Spots limited.  Please call 321.264.5185 to register.

Saturday, March 5th, 2:00pm – Solitary Bee Abode Workshop

Did you know that not all bees make hives?  Many native bees make tunnels in wood and underground.

These native bees are important pollinators in our gardens, farms, and natural areas.  Learn about native bees and other pollinators with Shari Blissett-Clark and create a solitary bee abode to encourage native bees to live in your backyard!  Cost is $10 per bee block.  Please call 321.264.5185 to reserve your spot.

Sunday, March 6th, 2:00pm – 2:30pm – Reptile & Snake Presentation

Learn about some of the Enchanted Forest’s reptile residents and meet a red rat snake!

Wednesday, March 9th, 10:00am – 10:45am – Nature Time for 2-3 Year Olds

March’s theme is frogs!  Hop on in to learn about frogs and toads of Florida through a story and hands-on activities!  Spots limited.  Please call 321.264.5185 to register.

Saturday, March 12th

10:00am – 11:00amYoga in Nature

Enjoy a traditional yoga class for all levels on the screened porch.  Wear loose fitting clothes and do not eat an hour before class.  Please bring water and a mat if you have one.  Please call 321.264.5185 to register.

7:00pm – 10:30pmFLS Night Paddle & Hike Adventure

Explore Fox Lake Sanctuary like never before!  Enjoy an evening paddle and night hike to explore the nocturnal wildlife of Fox Lake Sanctuary.  Paddle distance will be 3 miles.  Hiking distance will be approximately 1.5 miles.

Participants need to bring a flashlight or headlamp, bug repellent and closed-toed footwear adequate for hiking.  Please meet at the Fox Lake Park boat ramp at 6:45pm.  Guests may bring their own kayak/canoe or a limited number of kayaks are available.  Please RSVP by Thursday, March 10th by calling 321.264.5185.

Wednesday, March 16th, 12:00pm – 1:00pm – Lunch with Nature – “Vanishing Amphibians: The Case of the Disappearing Frogs”

Frogs and toads are disappearing around the world and are even going missing in our own backyards. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy a special presentation by EEL Naturalist, Ariel Horner on what is happening to our slimy friends and how you as an individual can help save them.

Thursday, March 17th, 6:30pm – Friends of the Enchanted Forest Meeting– “Fireflies”

Enjoy a presentation by entomologist and firefly expert Dr. Joe Cicero.  Light refreshments and short business meeting at 6:30pm, followed by the presentation.

All levels of photographers welcome. View photographs and learn helpful tips during their monthly meeting.

3:00pm – 5:00pmDrum Circle

Find your beat!  Guests are invited to join in on a family-friendly drum circle facilitated by Carol Crystal Woman.  Please bring your favorite drum or rattle.  There will be limited instruments to share.

Sunday, March 20th, 2:00pm – 4:00pm – Forest Funday – Incredible Eggs!

Children and families are invited to explore different kinds of eggs and the animals that hatch from them anytime between 2:00pm and 4:00pm through eggs-periments, a craft, and more!

Wednesday, March 23rd, 6:30pm – 8:30pm – FNPS Sea Rocket Chapter Meeting – “Saving Florida’s Roadside Wildflowers”

Lisa Roberts, Florida Wildflower Foundation Executive Director, will discuss the Florida Wildflower Foundation’s efforts to preserve Florida’s native wildflowers that grow along the roadsides.  Light refreshments served at 6:30pm, meeting and presentation will start at 7:00pm.

9:00am – 12:00pmScottsmoor Flatwoods Sanctuary Field Trip

Join the Sea Rocket Chapter of FNPS and Dr. Paul Schmalzer for a hike at Scottsmoor Flatwoods Sanctuary (SFS).  SFS was acquired in 2008 by the Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands Program with assistance from The Nature Conservancy.

The site includes scrubby flatwoods, mesic flatwoods, cypress strand, hammocks, and marshes and prescribed burning have been conducted since acquisition.  SFS is located at 6000 Magoon Avenue

Scottsmoor, FL 32775.  Please meet at Scottsmoor Parrish Park and bring hat, sunscreen, water, and insect repellant.

11:00am – 3:00pm – A Taste of Poison Special Event

This is a unique experience for all ages to explore their fear and curiosity of the venomous and poisonous wildlife of Florida!  See live venomous snakes, meet poisonous amphibians, attend guest lectures, go on a hike to explore the poisonous plants and mushrooms of the Enchanted Forest, and more!  There will also be hands-on activities and crafts specifically for children to enjoy!  Suggested donation of $3 to the Friends of the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary.

 

Monday, March 28th, 6:00pm – Advisory Committee Meeting

The purpose of this meeting is to gather input on the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary Management Plan.  Meeting is open to the public.

Thursday, March 31st, 8:00am – 12 pm – FLS Kayak Birding Trip

Enjoy a free leisurely kayak tour of Fox Lake Sanctuary exploring the local bird species that live in and around Fox Lake.  Please meet at the Fox Lake Park boat ramp at 7:30am.  Guests may bring their own kayak/canoe or a limited number of kayaks are available.  Please RSVP by Tuesday, March 29th by calling 321.264.5185. Don’t forget water and sunscreen.
