BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Rachel Pence and Travis Wunder of the Florida Tech softball and men’s lacrosse teams earned Panther Student-Athlete of the Week laurels on Monday for their performances during the week of Feb. 1-7.

In her only action of the weekend, Pence baffled Chadron State en route to her third shutout of the season. The junior went the distance against the Eagles, allowing a mere two hits and four total base runners while striking out six along the way.

Pence’s dominance was necessary for the Panthers, who mustered just a single run to knock off CSC.

On the season the junior righty has accumulated a 5-0 record with a 0.97 ERA. In her 29 innings of work, Pence has struck out 30 batters and surrendered just three bases on balls.

One of the top faceoff specialists in the nation in 2015, Wunder picked up right where he left off, winning 21-of-32 draws to go along with five groundballs, guiding the Panthers past Young Harris in their season opener on Friday.

In the fourth quarter alone, Wunder went 6-for-8 at the X to aid in Florida Tech’s comeback from a two-goal fourth quarter deficit and win 16-14.
