BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Sammy Kirschten, a local Cub Scout and second grade student at Golfview Elementary, will arrive to school in style on Thursday thanks to a strategic alliance between the Boy Scouts of America and NASCAR Xfinity Series driver, Scott Lagasse Jr. of TeamSLR.

Lagasse will drive Kirschten to school in the NASCAR Alert Today Alive Tomorrow, Boy Scouts of America race car as part of the Drive a Scout to School program.

Kirschten was chosen from a pool of Cub Scouts who worked on bicycle safety in 2016.

Scouts earning this belt loop work with their parents or adult guardians by explaining the rules of safety for bicycling, demonstrating how to wear the proper safety equipment for bicycling, show how to ride a bike safely and ride for at least one hour with an adult partner, family or den leader.

Lagasse is the spokesperson for Alert Today Florida, a comprehensive pedestrian and bicyclist safety program facilitated by the Florida Department of Transportation.

The goal of the program is to reduce traffic crashes resulting in fatalities and serious injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists in Florida.

The pair will arrive at 8:30 a.m. at the school and will be greeted by all of his fellow Golfview students in front of the school.
