Palm Bay Police: Gunman Shot and Killed After Allegedly Threatening Cops, FDLE Investigating

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – At around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Palm Bay police responded to a residence on Mariposa Drive after receiving a call about an individual in the home making threats to three people doing construction at a residence next door, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.

When officers arrived on-scene a standoff ensued with officers and the resident. The resident exited the home several times, then around 11:30 a.m. the resident came out of the house carrying a firearm. A Palm Bay police officer then fired a single shot, killing the suspect.

The 39-year-old hispanic male suspect was declared dead at the scene.

Police are not releasing the man’s name at this time, until the next of kin are notified.

According to Palm Bay Police, Jason McCoy “exemplary officer” fired the shot, killing the gunman who threatened officers. McCoy is an Air Force veteran who has been with the police department for eight years.

Florida Department Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation and is ongoing.
