BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – While I am always proud to bring the outstanding actions by our agency members to your attention, I am very pleased to bring the incredible actions of one of our citizens to your attention.

Brevard County is a truly amazing community where our citizens partner with Law Enforcement to keep our county a great and safe place to call home. This story is a perfect example of how much we can help someone during a time of need and how quickly our actions can save a life.

In this particular incident, a citizen dropped everything he was doing in his everyday life to assist a critically wounded traffic crash victim.

The citizen, Travis Lane, heard what appeared to be a crash in the area of his residence. He ran from his residence and located a vehicle that had lost control, veered from the roadway and struck a tree.

The vehicle was on its side and the driver was trapped within. The only area of the vehicle that he could access the trapped driver was the windshield.

Lane then used his bare hands to break through the windshield and peel it back so he could enter and remove the driver.

Lane subsequently dragged the victim to safety and remained with the victim until Brevard County Fire Rescue responded to transport the driver for emergency medical treatment.

Mr. Lane was treated on scene by the Firemedics to address injuries he sustained during the rescue, injuries that he fought through to help someone in need.

I am very proud to recognize Travis for his actions and for risking his own personal safety to render aid to a fellow citizen. Please join me in thanking Travis for a job well done to help another.
