Three Polls in Two Days Show Trump Losing Florida Support

Trump-Rubio-580-2LAKELAND, FLORIDA — Three consecutive polls of Florida Republicans show a shrinking lead for Donald Trump over Sen. Marco Rubio in the Republican Primary race.

The Lakeland Ledger / WTSP (CBS affiliate) poll of 750 registered Republican voters shows Trump with 36 percent of the vote and Rubio with 30, followed by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who came in third in poll with 17 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 8 percent. It comes one day after two other polls showed Trump’s lead dropping to single digits.

According to data from the Ledge/ WTSP poll demographics, Trump’s weakest areas of support are among women and Hispanics. Women favored Rubio, with 37 percent of women saying they would vote for him compared with 29 percent for Trump. Trump had a much wider margin of men who preferred him, 42 percent to 24 percent.

Rubio was favored by 62 percent of Hispanics, while Trump was supported with just 14 percent. On the Democratic side, the poll showed Hillary Clinton with a commanding 68 percent to 23 percent lead.
