Bicyclist Killed In Monday Night Crash In Melbourne, Florida Highway Patrol Investigating

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are in route to a fatal hit and run crash at Courtenay Parkway and Alma Boulevard on Merritt Island.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a bicycle and a 1999 Ford SUV off US-1 and the Pineda Causeway Monday night at around 10 p.m, according to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patol.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a bicycle and a 1999 Ford SUV off US-1 and the Pineda Causeway Monday night at around 10 p.m, according to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patol.

A 78-year-old man by the name of Horst Ullrich Wilms, of Germany, was the bicyclist who died as a result of his injuries.

Nathan Wayne Kutz, 38, of Merritt Island, was the driver of the SUV.

According to the preliminary investigation, the SUV was traveling south on US-1 when the car collided with the bicycle that was also traveling south on US-1.

Alcohol was not a factor in this incident, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash still remains under investigation.
