Chief John Lau Set To Strut His Stuff For the Needy At Dancing For the Space Coast

The second annual Dancing For the Space Coast, a unique competition and fundraising event that benefits three worthy organizations on the Space Coast, will be held at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center on Saturday, June 4.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The second annual Dancing For the Space Coast, a unique competition and fundraising event that benefits three worthy organizations on the Space Coast, will be held at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center on Saturday, June 4.

This year, Dancing For the Space Coast will benefit the Brevard Public Safety Charity, who has earmarked the proceeds to be distributed to the Foosner Art Museum, Sally’s House and AMI Kids.

Among those participating this year is Titusville Police Chief John Lau, who started his law enforcement career in 1992 with TPD after moving from Long Island New York.

Chief Lau has risen through the ranks from Patrol Officer, Commander, Assistant Chief, to being appointed Chief of Police in 2013. In 1996, he was awarded the Titusville Police Department Officer of the Year and Brevard County Investigator of the Year.

Chief Lau earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Warner Southern College in Business Management and his Master’s Degree from the University of Central Florida in Criminal Justice. In 2006, he attended the prestigious FBI National Academy and in 2009 the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Chief Executive Seminar.

In 2012, Chief Lau attended the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar and utilizes this knowledge in his day to day business overseeing the Titusville Police Department.

He has served on the board of the Brevard County Association of Chiefs of Police since 2010 and is currently serving as the Past President of this Association.

Chief Lau and his wife Vanessa have two children – Katie, 14 and Evan, 9. He is extremely active in his community and enjoys volunteering his time in all facets of youth activities.

Chief Lau coaches and officiates at the Titusville YMCA, Indian River City Little League and the Titusville Police Athletic League. He is also is an active board member of the Central Florida YMCA and a member of the Titusville Rotary Club.

The 2016 Dancing For the Space Coast will also feature Space Coast community and business leaders Jim Frasier, owner of Grimaldi Candies; Kent Smith, President and COO of Revolution Technologies; Christina Rose of Bansbach EasyLift; Courtney Chavert; Carol Ann Stumpf of Beyond and Back Travel; Lori Scott, Brevard County Supervisor of Elections; Brenda Sheets of Harris Corporation; Eric Austin, Cocoa police officer and AMI Kids board member; Dr. Desmond Blackburn, Brevard County Schools superintendent; Michelle Pearse; Dr. Kantilal Bhalani of the Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation, and Bino Campanini of the Florida Institute of Technology.

Several sponsorship levels are available, including the Grease Sponsor for $25,000, the Flashdance Sponsor for $15,000, the Footloose Sponsor for $10,000 and the Saturday Night Fever Sponsor for $5,000.

Tables are available at the following levels: Front Row VIP Dinner Table, $5,000; Second Row VIP Dinner Table, $2,500; Third Row Dinner Table, $1,750; and Fourth Row Dinner Table, $1,250. Individual seats can be purchased for $150 per person.
