BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The Titusville Police Department kicked off their new citywide crime awareness initiative with a billboard featuring an art design by an Oak Park Elementary School student.

Local 6th grade students had the opportunity to submit a “Lock it or Lose it” design. A single finalist was selected from each of the 7 elementary schools for a total of 7 finalists. One Grand Prize Winner from those 7 finalists had their art design incorporated into the billboard’s crime prevention message.

The billboard, located westbound on Cheney Highway across from Wal-Mart, will serve as a visual reminder for citizens to prevent crime by always locking their homes, cars and businesses.

The billboard will be posted from mid-April until mid-June.

“More than 85% of the stolen vehicles in Titusville are from unlocked vehicles with the ignition keys in the car”, said Chief John Lau.

“We are hoping that our “Lock it or Lose it” campaign increases the awareness for locking and securing your property and we are proud of all of the 6th graders who participated in our contest,” added Lau.
